Renting in St John's Wood NW8

st johns wood image

Property for rent in St John's Wood NW8 exudes exclusivity. With diplomats, celebrities and overseas residence inhabiting many of the homes here, there is a wealthy and cosmopolitan aura about the place. The American School located on Loudoun Road has also created a magnet for many US expatriates. This classy residential area sits between Maida Vale and Regent's Park. The 10 minute drive into the West End also makes this a very appealing location, as do the notable landmarks; Abbey Road recording studio made legendary by The Beatles (Paul McCartney still lives close by) and Lord's Cricket Ground.

There are a fantastic range of flats and houses to rent in St John's Wood and you will find the crème de la crème of Edwardian, Georgian and Victorian residential architecture in St John's Wood and Maida Vale. Alongside this there is an air of picturesque Italian architecture bordering Regents Canal, which is now known as Little Venice. Maida Vale was named after the Napoleonic Battle of Maida in Italy in 1806. Both areas are exclusive former Victorian suburbs, built to offer a retreat from the industrial and commercial world of London. With this in mind, the majority of the homes have private gardens at the back of them, which are enclosed by tall brick walls. Contrary to the understanding that the suburbs are homogenous, St John's Wood and Maida Vale's architecture varies. It was largely the creative types, such as artists who owned them, who adapted the style to suit their own preferences. The difference between these two areas is that St John's Wood is slightly grander with more detached and semi-detached houses. Maida Vale has a more modest community with a larger number of terraced houses.
