This 'village' of north London is situated on a hill and has drawn in the professional classes. This goes back to the Great Plague in 1665 when London lawyers and judges had to flee the city and hold court and live in Hampstead Heath to escape the diseased metropolis. Its intriguing past goes beyond the Great Plague, as 19th Century writers such as Pope, Dickens and Keat all frequented the pubs here. It was also the location of a health spa back then.

Today it is one of the trendiest places to live in London. Much socialising goes on over cappuccinos in its chic coffee houses and expensive cars drive past on the Hampstead High Street.
